Couple of friends have just moved out there a few months ago, they are loving it at the moment. Hope to get out there in the not too distant.

Buying a place?

There’s an after sales stamp duty type of thing called “cadastre”. It’s a tax payable where the local government or something re calculate your already paid stamp duty based on a higher or lower price than you paid. Depending on market conditions you could be hit with an additional bill. If you buy a flat you may have community (service) charge. Council tax and non resident income tax are payable too. Both a are generally nominal and can be offset if you let the place out occasionally. Alll in all if you have the cash well worth it. Plenty of property available and as others have said Spain is fuckig brilliant but you probably already know that if you’re considering buying out there.

Re: Bolthole in Spain
I spent a lot of time in a little town called Coin (pronounced coeen),in between Marbella and Fuengerola. It had a big ex pat population for a while but i think a lot of them moved further on towards Mijas. Got great memories of the place and once this covid malarky is over will pop back for a long weekend to take in if and how its changed. Last time i was there was 2013 so it may well be a khasi now but it'll always be special to me as my Mum had 14 wonderful years living there.

BRANDED 11:09 Tue Oct 27 agreed.

Most brits think of the costas. Spent 10 years there and did not ever need a holiday.

Literally has all. Apparently pukka ski region I missed. La Coruña has 124 beaches of which 121 are blue flag. Many untouched or only visited by nearest locals.

Even the high income areas have regular local restaurants affordable with the same vibes and quality. Unlike heading up Mayfair etc......

People presume the weather up North is like the UK. Leave off, Santander went many weekends. Odd shower then wicked Sun. Nothing like 4 seasons in a day UK.

The raves - kick shit out of UK. Fabrik Madrid I worked a while there, it holds 12,000 nutters, swan lake, hot tubs, beautiful gardens, 3 fuck off rooms. 8pm to about 9am. no attitude or hassles. Better than many Ibiza clubs.

Not mentioning the tunnel raves and mountain raves for free.

I done a lot of work there , Real Madrid, Kings guard, Nato Spain, Juan Carlos Uni, Special Forces Spain and when UK-US DJs played Fabrik.

Went for 3 days stayed 10 years, only returned due to the slow deterioration of my Mum and dementia.

Italy has its comparisons and beauty, but Spain , by far the best country in Europe. IMHO.

Re: Bolthole in Spain
To be fair, if you make an effort with Spanish even Spanglish, away from the ex pat packed costas, every part of Spain is generous with Tapas, the north is great also.

It was my lunch for 10 years for the price of a caña for a euro or red wine.

Even the menu of the day at good places is pukka fresh cooked produce 3-4 courses for €9.99 even in the cako towns.

Franco introduced that, menu of the day, amongst murdering those opposed to him.

Cuenca is special. Not far from Madrid.

Went to Cuenca a couple of years ago. The tapas just kept coming and coming and we ended up not having dinner, there was just no need. Absolutely lovely.

They dish out so much tapas in Granada that it gets in the way of the drinking. I end up asking not to be brought any more tapas, just beer.

I can't roll my R's plus it just sounds wrong in a thick cockney accent so i just feel silly speaking it.
